Lecture 8: Solenoid valves Setup, Introduction to Mass Balance

What to bring

  • Fish tank (with long breadboard, LCD panel, etc)
  • 12 V power supply
  • 4 empty water bottles (with lids) per group if not done with calibration

Learning Objectives

  • Be able to assemble the cascade switching circuit for solenoid valves on the fish tank platform
  • Be able to explain the sequence of events that occur when a relay coil is powered
  • Be able to identify the different types of relays (SPST, SPDT, DPST, and DPDT) and explain their operation
  • Be able to use a systematic procedure to solve batch mass balance problems

Notes

  • Slides on conservation of mass,
  • Screen cast of slides on conservation of mass (8.53)
  • Mandatory: take the online quiz 6 on D2L. Its access will close 15 minutes before the beginning of class time.
